The CHANTS

In late 1966 the main core of the chants Arthur Dobe, Graham Sully, Graham Street, &  Garry Howard were looking for a different sound and were trying out new lead instrumentalists for the group. The pic left appeared in a local Brisbane news paper.

In 1967 The Chants (right) then saw the growing popularity of Tijuana style music of the Tijuana Brass. This group was all the rage with hits like Tijuana Taxi, Spanish Flea...ect. Cornet player  Ron Johnson from The South Brisbane Brass Band was recruited, he fitted in well and bought an air of professionalism to The Chants.
